For the first time on picture disc, Beggars Arkive is reissuing The Charlatansâ iconic second single, âThe Only One I Know,â newly remastered at Abbey Road Studios by Frank Arkwright. Originally released in 1990, the track became the highest-charting single in the UK from their seminal debut album, Some Friendly.
The song draws inspiration from music history, incorporating lines directly lifted from The Byrds' 1967 track âEverybody's Been Burnedâ and featuring a distinctive organ riff inspired by Deep Purpleâs rendition of âHush.â
Tim Burgess on the single âThe Only One I Knowâ: âI came up with it on the way to the garage to get fags. I had to pelt back to my mum and dadâs to get my Dictaphone before I forgot itâ
